Following the purchase of the property, the Capital Campaign was postponed so as not to overly burden the community in light of the fund-raising activities associated with the St. Nicholas National Shrine. During this time the Board worked on its vision for the new site and tentative plans were prepared. In 2018, the Home engaged the services of the Filbin Group to review those plans and substantive recommendations were made by the Group to assure the viability of the new facility while still meeting the overall needs of the community.

Attorneys were also engaged in Albany to work on behalf of St. Michael's with the Department of Health in the preparation and submission of applications for the various levels of care. After careful review and consideration of our application to expand, DOH granted permission in November 2020 to begin the construction. Upon the completion of the work and inspection of the new facility, DOH will revisit license applications and make an appropriate judgement.

In 2017, no longer able to delay the project any longer because of the critical need, the Capital Campaign was officially initiated and tto date $39,000,000 has been pledged, most of which have been fulfilled. With the onset of the pandemic, fund-raising efforts were greatly hindered but with the start of construction those efforts resume so as to assure the availability of resources to continue the construction without interruption.

All major contributions will be acknowledge on a Donor Board located at the entrance of the facility and all donations, large and small, will be recorded on a digital donor program which can be viewed in the same area.
